Not Dead

There comes a point in the life of a housewife where the Honey DO list becomes a quest from God. I knew when I married Dave that he was just not into the yard work thing and – until we moved to the Keys – we had never lived anywhere for more than five years so shit breaking was not an issue. We have been here for over 13 years at least and shit is breaking. Nothing major … if you are handy. Light switches. Door bells. Minor plumbing. I have tried subtle suggestions. I have stared at Dave pointedly. I emailed his Blackberry. For a few blissfull weeks my daughter’s boyfriend was putting in some time for extra dough, but I had him on major repairs thinking he would still be around later for the minor repairs. Didn’t happen.

The Internet is my friend.

I looked up how to replace light switches and got the switches in the house all replaced. There is one double switch in the garage that is next and a light fixture. Today? Today I replaced the doorbell button. It’s not that anyone ever rings it. Most people prefer to gong the ship’s bell next to the door on the other side. But. It was a gaping electrical hole next to the door that freaked me out and looked trashy.

Door bell button installed. Tested. Now I need to find a double light switch. Why is everything closed on Sundays around here?

As for Dave. He’s napping. Let’s stared at him pointedly for a moment, shall we?

*time passes*

There. I’m wanting more lights outside with a switch inside of a timer switch. Anyone know the degree of difficulty on that? Should I call an electrician? Do they install new light fixtures where none were before?

Not hard to do at all. I installed solar ones, one on each side of the front door. I love it because it uses solar power to stay lit and no electricity. The wires I buried about a foot down so mild weeding won’t bother them. The solar ones come on at dusk and go off at dawn so there is no forgetting to turn them on or off. Easy peasy!
